Marriage Ministry Leaders

Mike and Karen were high school sweethearts and have been married for 37 years. They have two sons, one daughter-in-law, and three grandsons.  They married at a very young age (Mike 19 and Karen 16) and both came from divorced homes.  The odds were stacked against them but they decided divorce was not an option so they set out to learn how to live with and enjoy each other.  They are now best friends and have a love and respect for each other they didn’t think was possible.  The pain they lived through has given them a heart and passion for marriages.  They want to help couples learn how to build a strong and healthy marriage so they can have strong healthy families.

Mike and Donna met on a blind date in 1996. They had both been married before, so they took things slow and were married in 2004. They have one son and a daughter-in-law. Donna is a retired nurse and Mike had a career in retail sales. In May 2004 they moved to Jacksonville to open a Sport Clips Barber Shop and moved to Nocatee in November 2004.  They began attending Crosswater Community Church in January 2015.  They attribute the success of their marriage to the 100%-100% formula; each of them strives to give 100% to the other 100% of the time. They are best friends.

Steve and Bev have been married for almost 39 years. They have a daughter, son, and a daughter-in-law. They met at a party and were married a year later.  Their lives revolve around church, family & friends. They enjoy sharing the gospel together, praying & worshiping together and serving the Lord together in various ways.  They enjoy going out to dinner and especially enjoy sushi. They are anticipating retirement in the near future and look forward to spending more time together and traveling more often. The secret to the success of their marriage is simple; they have always placed the other person’s needs before their own individual needs. Steve and Bev have a strong love for, and complete trust in, each other.  “God surely blessed us when He put us together”.

Sean and Tammie have been married for 22 years and have a daughter and two sons. Sean has been a Physical Therapist since 2001, and he will be starting his 5th year as a Program Manager and Professor at FSCJ.  He is also a Chaplain with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and very involved in youth sports throughout our area. Tammie is the Executive Director of Lifework Leadership First Coast, which trains area professionals in Organizational Leadership Development based on principles displayed in the life of Jesus. She previously owned a successful multi-site business for over 12 years, and has past experiences as a Principal, and a Campus Director at SEU.  Along with their primary vocations the Lord has provided them each the opportunity to complete their Master of Arts in Religion. They are so excited to be a part of the Marriage Ministry at Crosswater.

Refik and Lauren met over 30 years ago. Refik was a young prosecuting attorney and Lauren was a young judicial assistant. Refik said it was “love at first sight.  They are still fiercely independent individuals but united as one because they believe that “marriage takes three”, a man, a woman and God to endure.  Their lives are busier than ever with work and other commitments, but they still enjoy date nights. Picasso’s in Mandarin is one of their favorite spots. Their secret to a successful marriage is communication, respect, trust and admiration for one another, along with a good sense of humor.  “At the end of the day, and our lives, we both agree that through thick or thin, happy times or sad, we are grateful and feel blessed that we each have each other”.
